No Respect: A Brief History of the Abuse of Plymouth Rock w/SEMPBA
March 22 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
What did you expect when you first encountered Plymouth Rock? A glowing orb? A Gibraltar-sized boulder? A multimedia extravaganza? If you don’t know the story ‘behind’ The Rock, you won’t be impressed.
Perhaps that’s why The Rock is regularly abused: we don’t know any better.
Just this past February The Rock was once again the victim of abuse – tagged with spray paint. Coincidentally historian Jim Baker’s definitive history (The Rock’s Own Story) is due out in April.
Jim will be speaking at the Center Hill Preserve (158 Center Hill Road) Sunday, March 22, starting at 2 pm – focusing his remarks on the history of the Rock’s abuse; other times it has been tagged, two Native American faux burials that took place within its enclosure, even a connection to Whitey Bulger!
Tickets (free) are limited to 40 and each participant will receive a “Defender of the Rock’ button. No matter what you feel about the Rock, you’ll feel better knowing the real story.
Coffee and cookies will be served and Jim will stay around to talk Rock and other local history afterwards. Remember, just 40 ‘seats’ are available. Gets yours today.
