A natural community is a distinct grouping of plant species that occur together in recurring patterns.  Each of these communities provides a unique habitat to which other species have adapted. There are 106 recognized natural communities in Massachusetts; 40 of which are found in the Atlantic Coastal Pine Barrens ecoregion.

SEMPBA put together a brochure (in English y en Español) so that visitors to the Center Hill Preserve can learn to identify natural communities in their backyards.
